I'll be interested in your experience with the better Canon papers (Luster, Plus Glossy II, SemiGloss, Platinum, etc. I usually try relative first esp if most colors are in-gamut. Relative will bring the out of gamut colors into gamut but not touch the already-in-gamut colors. In PS, I usually make a layer group for the specific paper I'm going to be using and populate it w/ a curves & HSL layer.ģ. in general, a bit of increase in saturation and contrast brings the softproof more into line w/ original.

  • Is there a general way of deciding whether to use Perceptual or Relative Colorimetric rendering intent or is it just a case of trial & error.Ģ.
  • Is there a recomned to methodology to restore the 'vibrancy' of the picture when printed?
  • The displayed soft proof on the monitor is close to the printed result as mentioned above but lacks contrast and colour saturation compared to the edited image without soft proofing.

Should I keep on using this driver in preference to the standard driver?

  • I've started using the Canon XPS driver since it claims to perform 16 bit processing.

This is a severe limitation of DXO Optics Pro which means I will be doing most of my printing from Lightroom or Photoshop. I was initially trying to print from DXO Optics Pro which I now realise doesn't have soft proofing (why not?) and this makes a big difference when comparing the screen to the print. I achieved very good matching using Photoshop, Lightroom and ACDSee Pro. The printed test image is a very good match with the monitor display provided that soft proofing & simulate print colours / match paper white is enabled in the editing program. Printed the above test image from Photoshop using the Pixma Pro 100 XPS driver, Photoshop handles colours, Canon Pro 100 profile to match the paper, relative colorimetric intent, standard print quality & no ICM matching in the printer driver.Calibrated the monitor to 80 Cd/mK using my Spyder 4 Pro.I've only tried the basic Canon MP-101 matt paper so far and will move on to test the better paper types soon. Oh joy and happiness! I've now obtained some Canon paper and have achieved a very good match between what I see on my VP2770 monitor and the Pixma Pro 100 print. It all depends on the paper and it's Dot Gain characteristics and really what looks best to your eye. So for Matte printing you would use a (3) designated profile and maybe standard quality setting. Those Profile charts were printed at a lower quality settings meaning, lower printer resolution to prevent dots from blending into each other and actually lower the sharpness of the image printed. Quality 3 on the profile most likely for Matte papers which allow more ink dot spread. So if you use a profile designated as 1/2 you should set your quality as high on the driver. That means that those settings were used when the profile targets were printed. 1/2 means quality with the 1 being highest. I yesterday's 'experiment', I was using Permajet Oyster 271 paper which was provided free with the printer using profile APJ_OEMPRO100_OYSTER_PPPSG.icm. I noticed Canon papers have some profiles labelled "1/2" and some labelled "3" for the same paper. I'll recalibrate to a monitor brightness of 80 Cd/m2 and start using Canon papers.

I'm just trying to confirm the printer is working correctly. Is it best to enable ICM in the photo program or the printer driver ( I know you shouldn't set both simultaneously)?.What test image should I use - RAW or JPG and what colour space should the camera be set to?.Which photo program should I use (I have Lightroom, DXO Optics Pro and ACDSee Pro)?.I should probably start with Canon paper - which lustre type paper should I try and which ICM profile should be used?.Please recommend a simple workflow I can use to confirm the correct operation of the printer e.g. The problem is that the print is far too dark compared to that displayed on the monitor and the colors are a poor match. Test RAW image from Lumix GX7 camera using Adobe RGB colour space set on the camera.ICM enabled in DXO / Lightroom, disabled in printer driver.Permajet Oyster 271 paper using profile APJ_OEMPRO100_OYSTER_PPPSG.icm (is that correct)?.
